Weather Preparedness: A Critical Responsibility for Property Managers

Property management professionals know that severe weather is more than just an inconvenience, it is an operational challenge that requires planning, communication and rapid response. Whether preparing for hurricanes, winter storms, flooding, high winds or extreme heat, our industry plays a critical role in protecting residents, maintaining safe communities and minimizing property damage.

That is why we are excited about the opportunity to hear from Chief Meteorologist John Ahrens of WSOC-TV. With decades of experience covering major weather events throughout the Carolinas, John brings valuable insight into how weather patterns impact our region and how organizations can better prepare for emergencies.

As property managers, we are tasked with closely monitoring weather conditions to ensure our properties remain safe, accessible, and well-maintained. From experience, when a major weather event occurs, our teams quickly shift into "weather mode" - preparing properties, educating tenants, coordinating vendors and implementing action plans to respond effectively.

Weather preparedness has become increasingly important as severe weather events continue to affect our communities with greater frequency and intensity. Having access to trusted meteorological expertise helps property management professionals make informed decisions before, during and after critical events.

John's presentation is expected to provide valuable perspectives on:

  • Understanding severe weather trends affecting the Carolinas
  • Improving preparedness and response planning
  • Communicating effectively with residents during emergencies
  • Utilizing weather data and forecasts to support operational decisions
  • Building resilience within our communities and properties

This presentation has the potential to make a significant impact for our members by reinforcing the importance of proactive planning and preparedness. Strong weather awareness not only protects physical assets but also strengthens resident confidence and community safety.

We look forward to an engaging and informative session that will equip our members with practical knowledge they can apply immediately across their portfolios and communities.
